IT Staff Augmentation Services

Vetted IT talent ready to plug into your team — short-term, long-term, or project-based. We absorb the sourcing, vetting, payroll, and benefits cost so your team can stay focused on the work that only your team can do.

Why Augmented Staffing

When a deadline shifts, a key engineer takes leave, or a new initiative outpaces your in-house team, traditional hiring is too slow and full-time headcount is too rigid. Murphy McKay’s augmented staffing approach lets you scale the right technical talent up or down on demand without the recruiting, screening, onboarding, or HR overhead.
For more than 30 years we have been bridging the gap between talented IT professionals and forward-thinking Bay Area companies. Every person we place has been through our time-tested vetting process: a full review of your job description, an interview with the hiring manager to capture “success factors,” and a culture fit assessment before any introduction is made.

Three Reasons Companies Choose Murphy McKay

1. We Free Your Team From Sourcing and Vetting

You don’t write the job posting. You don’t sift through hundreds of resumes. You don’t run technical screens or coordinate first-round interviews. We do all of that — and we only put candidates in front of you that already match your job description, your hiring manager’s success factors, and your team’s culture. Your team spends its time evaluating two or three pre-vetted finalists, not chasing the search itself.

2. We Absorb
the Full Cost of Hiring

The true cost of an IT hire is far more than the offer letter. With augmented staffing, you pay a single contracted rate — Murphy McKay carries everything else:
  • Job board postings and recruiter fees
  • Resume reviews and technical screens
  • Background checks and reference calls
  • Multiple interview rounds
  • Onboarding and ramp-up time
  • Payroll administration and tax withholding
  • Health insurance, dental, and vision benefits
  • 401(k), PTO accrual, and benefits administration

3. A 30-Year
Bay Area IT Network

Murphy McKay has been placing IT talent across Northern California since the mid-1990s. That network is the real asset. When you need a help-desk lead, a data-center technician, or an IT project manager, we’re not starting a search — we’re calling people we already know and have placed successfully before. Three decades of relationships translates into faster matches, better fits, and lower risk than any agency starting from a job board.

Plus: We Stay Engaged Through the Improvement Program

Every Murphy McKay assignment is actively managed by a dedicated Account Manager. We check in at week two to confirm fit, run a monthly skills and culture reconfirmation, and share a formal Career Feedback document with you. If a contractor isn’t the right fit, we know early - and we know what to do about it.

Where are your contractors located?

We staff on-site, hybrid, and remote roles primarily across the San Francisco Bay Area (Walnut Creek, San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland) and the greater Los Angeles and Sacramento markets, with select coverage elsewhere in California.
